Veterans Day Program 2020

Hello, Clermont families!  November 4, 2020, kicks off our Veterans Day program to honor and thank our Veterans.  This year’s program includes National Military Family Month and learning about the six branches of the Military so we know more about what we’re thanking Veterans for.  Here’s how you and your student(s) can get involved and more information about our program:

  • Please help us honor Veterans by sending them a thank you note, a letter, or drawing! The Veterans Affairs Nursing Home in Richmond, VA is thrilled to accept letters, especially during COVID-19 safety lock-downs. The older Veterans who live here would greatly appreciate a letter to cheer them up and acknowledge their sacrifice and service to our country. The address is:

Voluntary Service – 135

Department of VA

Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center

1201 Broad Rock Blvd

Richmond, VA 23249

  • Clermont and PTA leadership, the Student Council Association, the News Show, the Clermont Music program, Patrol leadership, and others worked together to create a series of videos for Morning Meetings from November 4-13.  Tune in with your students to hear a unique, Clermont version of the National Anthem and to learn more about the branches of service, what it’s like to be a military family member and a Veteran, and Veterans Day.

  • Veterans and Active, Guard, and Reserve service members are invited to virtually visit classrooms. If you are interested and available to share your Clermont student’s screen and talk to your child’s class on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, please email veteransday@clermontpta.orgWe are also hoping to assemble a video montage of Clermont-associated Veterans telling students why they are proud they served.  If you or another family member will participate, please email veteransday@clermontpta.org . Please email by November 4, 2020.

  • Plan on participating in FCPS’ “Walking Wednesdays” all week by following a one-mile loop Scavenger Hunt for Veterans Day information that begins and ends near the Clermont parking lot.  The Scavenger Hunt will be available the entire week of Veterans Day (9-14 November), so make plans for a socially distanced family walk!  Look for the map and clues near the parking lot entrance.  To help with set-up or tear-down:  Sign Up Here!

As a sign of patriotism and respect, American flags donated by Home Depot will line Clermont’s entrance and walkway November 9-13.  To help with set-up or tear-down:  Sign Up Here!
